BREAKING NEWS: DOJ Halts Donations to Ilhan Omar After Her House Is Raided as Trump Administration Weighs New Deportation Strategy

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar is reportedly using a federal criminal investigation that resulted in Homeland Security agents raiding her home to raise campaign donations.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is seeking reelection Nov. 3, is using a federal criminal investigation that resulted in Homeland Security agents raiding her home Monday to raise campaign donations, The Hill reported.

The progressive Democrat sent a fundraising email urging supporters to contribute after Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, searched her residence as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

“Stand with Ilhan Omar,” the fundraising email stated, according to a screenshot obtained by NewsNation, The Hill’s partner network.

Donald Trump and DHS have opened a baseless, partisan investigation into Ilhan Omar, and she needs us by her side as they escalate their attacks,” the email stated.

“Chip in whatever you can to make sure Ilhan can beat Trump and keep fighting for our progressive values in Congress.”

The Justice Department confirmed Monday that federal agents searched Omar’s home as part of an ongoing criminal investigation but did not disclose the allegations under investigation.

White House border czar Tom Homan said in September that Omar was under investigation.

“I’m confirming that ICE is, yeah — look, I said months ago that there’s something that’s been reported and needs to be looked at,” Homan said at the time.

The search comes three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, as Republicans seek to maintain control of Congress.

The Hill noted that major Justice Department investigative actions involving political candidates within 60 days of an election are unusual.

Omar denounced the search, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to target political opponents.

“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar wrote on X.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

Her congressional office issued a separate statement describing the search as an “outrageous abuse of power” and asserting that the congresswoman had committed no wrongdoing.

“The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies,” the statement said.

Trump, who has repeatedly clashed with Omar over immigration and her criticism of his administration, renewed his attacks before a campaign rally in Ohio.

The president called Omar “totally crooked” and a “terrible person” while speaking with reporters.

The Minnesota Democrat has frequently criticized Trump’s immigration policies and defended Somali immigrants, who make up a significant community in her congressional district.

The Justice Department statement cited by The Hill did not identify any criminal charges against Omar, and the investigation’s specific focus remains undisclosed.

The development comes at a politically sensitive moment, just weeks before voters head to the polls, and has quickly become a rallying point for both her supporters and her critics.

The progressive Democrat sent a fundraising email urging supporters to contribute after Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, searched her residence as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. The email framed the search as part of a broader political attack against her, rather than a routine law enforcement action.

The Justice Department confirmed Monday that federal agents searched Omar’s home as part of an ongoing criminal investigation but did not disclose the allegations under investigation. The lack of detail has only intensified speculation and partisan debate over the nature and motivation of the probe.

White House border czar Tom Homan said in September that Omar was under investigation, suggesting that questions surrounding the congresswoman had been circulating for some time.

The search comes three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, as Republicans seek to maintain control of Congress. The timing has raised questions about whether the investigation could influence the outcome of Omar’s race or the broader national political environment.

The Hill noted that major Justice Department investigative actions involving political candidates within 60 days of an election are unusual, adding to the scrutiny surrounding the search and the way it has been handled by federal authorities.
